North Islands

Kokoana Passage delivers huge Gorgonian Fans and a multitude of colored reef fish - patrolling reef sharks at the drop off. Tetepare's westernmost point has remarkable soft coral and green turtles (nesting ground). Ndokendoke's steep drop off is totally encrusted with coral and sponges - a photographers delight. In general the reefs around Gizo provide sometimes good fish action with lots of colourful soft corals and Gorgonian Fans. Yellow Wall has some intersting yellow soft corals but the Tsunami damage has taken its toll on most reefs with western exposure. Shark Point offers mainly (big) grouper action (dozens) with the occasional reef shark joining in. The Manning Strait in Choiseul has current up to 5 knots but the coral growth was rather disappointing. The Toa Maru is another great wreck dive with superior coral growth and interesting artefacts (ammunition, sake bottles).
